Craft Your Own Lucky Daruma at Jindaiji Temple
Infuse it with your personal wishes!
Discover the Daruma doll, Japan’s quintessential symbol of good luck and perseverance! In this unique workshop, you’ll craft your own special Daruma using beautiful, traditional Japanese Kimono fabric – a perfect vessel to hold your dreams.
Key Points of the Experience

- Your creative journey begins as you inscribe your personal wish onto the Daruma’s body. Then, immerse yourself in a stunning selection of traditional Kimono fabrics. Choose the colors and intricate patterns that resonate with you, and let your creativity flow as you freely cut and apply them to design your one-of-a-kind Daruma. Selecting the perfect fabric might be the most delightfully challenging part – but also the most fun!
- Even if you feel hesitant about drawing, this technique empowers you; simply cutting the existing beautiful patterns allows you to craft any design you envision. You may find yourself becoming wonderfully focused, entering a quiet zone of pure creativity. Soon, you’ll likely notice your hands working with a surprising dexterity, crafting with a skill you might not have realized you possessed, even on your first try.
- Our workshop celebrates the “Chofu Daruma,” linking the rich traditions of Jindaiji Temple (home to a famous Daruma Market each March)
The fun continues after you’ve finished! Step outside the shop to snap some memorable photos wearing a fun Daruma headpiece, or try your hand at traditional Daruma-themed games.
