Same person, two and a half hours apart. That is what a gyaru makeover in Shibuya looks like. If you have seen the bold eyes, tanned or bright looks and school-style outfits on social media and wondered whether a visitor can actually try it, the short answer is yes. This guide covers everything you need to know before you book: what’s included, how long it takes, how much it costs, where to meet and what to bring.

Can tourists really do a gyaru makeover?
Yes. You don’t need to speak Japanese, have modeling experience or know anything about gyaru culture beforehand. There is no age limit. The session runs in English and Japanese, and the artists adapt the look to your face and your comfort level. Gyaru started in 1990s Shibuya as a way for young people to choose how they present themselves, and that is still the idea: you decide how far you want to go.
What’s included
- Gyaru hair and makeup by a professional artist, based on a Kuro Gyaru or Shiro Gyaru style (bring a reference photo if you have one)
- A wig if you want one (optional; the price depends on the wig you choose)
- Uniform-style outfit and accessories: skirt, ribbon, knit cardigan and loose socks
- Styling support and guidance during the session
- Your photos: purikura stickers or about 50 high-resolution photos from a pro photographer, depending on your plan
- Take-home items: the false eyelashes and the makeup remover used in your session
Not included: transport to the meeting point, food and drinks, colored contact lenses and long nails (bring your own if you want them).

How the 2.5 hours go
- Style chat. Show your reference photo or decide on the day. The artist suggests a look that suits you.
- Hair and makeup. The focus is the eyes: lashes, liner and shape. Hair is styled to match.
- Outfit. Change into the uniform-style outfit and add accessories.
- Photos in Shibuya. Take purikura in a photo-sticker booth, or walk the streets of Shibuya with a professional photographer.

How much does it cost?
| Plan | Price | Your photos |
|---|---|---|
| Purikura plan | $196 | Photo stickers from a purikura booth |
| Pro photographer plan | $300 | About 50 high-resolution digital photos from a guided shoot around Shibuya, sent by email in about a week |
Prices are in USD, per person. Both plans include the same hair, makeup and outfit.
